SEMINAR ON HEALTH SKILLS

Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences, a constituent of the Symbiosis International University (SIU)
organised a Seminar on health skills on 16th Feb 2016.

The Chief Guest for the event was Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Honourable Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.  Padma Bhushan Dr S. B Mujumdar, Founder & President, Symbiosis, Dr Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director, Symbiosis, Dr. Rajani Gupte, Vice Chancellor of the Symbiosis International University, Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean FoHBS, SIU, Mr Ashish Jain, Chief Executive Officer, Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) and Ms Shubnum Singh, Chief Executive, Max Institute of Health Education and Research were present on the occasion.

Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy mentioned that if 500 million young population of the country has to get employment opportunity there is a need to make skills training aspirational. The country's economy needs people with operative skills and we must send a message that acquiring a skill - which does not take a very long time - is guarantee to a reasonably well paying job.

Mr Rudy said for a long time India's policy laid a great stress on education thus making higher education aspirational as a way to find employment. Most investments were thus made in education with very little coming to skills training. "We created post graduates and doctorates who can't drive a nail into a wall or don't know how to apply first aid to a persons who has met with an accident," Mr Rudy said, adding that even in the skills training areas that available barely eight or nine with a mandate to ensure employment in government factories attract the most number.

Referring to the healthcare sector Mr Rudy said there are reasonably good facilities for education and training of doctors, paramedics or nursing staff but there is no provision to train dozens of other areas of work where healthcare sector needs staff.

The government has now defined 6700 national occupational standards and is in the process of determining the parameters for training, evaluation and certification for these occupations, Mr Rudy said. "There is demand for a variety of skills across the world. Make in India will not come through if we don't create 'Makers in India," Mr Rudy added.

Dr S. B. Mujumdar
Chancellor, SIU said India with its young population has an edge over other countries where population is aging. "This demographic opportunity will convert into demographic dividend if we create a strong base of skills training," Dr Mujumdar said.

Dr Yeravdekar in his introductory remarks elaborated on the present and proposed facilities for healthcare sector skills training at the Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences.

Hon’ble Minister interacted with various stakeholders viz. hospital, medical devices & equipment, NGOs, training partners, Home healthcare providers, representatives of National bodies, members of the various professional bodies, research organizations etc.

Yoga shivir by Baba Ramdev on Rashtriya Yuva Diwas(National Youth Day) - 12 January 2016

The day of 12th January 2016 witnessed a merge of two major events, Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi and the Yoga shivir. On this auspicious day, we Symbians had a life time opportunity of witnessing Shri Baba Ramdev Maharaj, the guru who is so highly spoken of and whose yoga demonstrations are known all over the world, was amidst us. Eager and curious, the enthusiastic crowd of 6500 students and staff of SIU, had assembled at the Symbiosis International University ground Lavale at 3:30 pm. The esteemed dignitaries and the Guest of Honour Baba Ramdev arrived at the venue at 4pm.
The occasion began with the lamp lighting. Symbiosis International University carries the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam-The world is one family. It has  an assembly of students from 85 countries of the world. As a mark of appreciation and love from all these countries, a flag of each country was presented to Shri Baba Ramdev ji by the student representatives.  The welcome address was delivered by  Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar , which was followed by an address by Founder  & President, Padmabhushan Dr S B Mujumdar. They expressed their immense delight on the occasion.

It was then time for the event of the day -Baba Ramdev Ji’s address. What we witnessed there was absolute knowledge, yoga and spirituality. The talk was enlightening. Not only did he elaborate on the importance of physical health, but also stressed on the fact that how important it is to remain mentally sound to find your way through life. The modern lifestyle, the food we consume and the rapid competition has left us unhealthy and stressful. He mesmerized   us by demonstrating how simple techniques like meditation, pranayama can build positivity and peace in our lives.
The talk was followed by Yoga session. Yoga is all about peace and concentration.

The yoga session started off with various types of pranayamas followed by different postures or asanas. The crowd was totally amazed and speechless by the flexibility and easiness with which baba was performing the yoga postures. It was a visual treat to witness that huge crowd performing yoga in sync.
On the whole, it was a great experience. The session  didn’t just teach us yoga .It also gave us immense knowledge about life, ethics and spirituality. It was more than a delight to listen to Ramdev Baba ji and his experience of life .

The programme ended at 6 :30 with a excellent quote of Swami Vivekananda “Arise, Awake and stop not till you reach your goal”.

We all returned with a wiser mind, lighter heart and a mesmerizing experience!

EID AAYI HAI!!!

Hawa Ko Khusbo MUBARAK,
Fiza Ko Mausam MUBARAK,
Dilon Ko Pyar MUBARAK,
Aapko Hamari Taraf Se..

EID MUBARAK!

After a long month of “roza” and prayers , finally the much awaited festival of EID had arrived. And the entire cultural committee was on the preparation spree. The brainstorming had started and all the members were actively putting forward their suggestions.  The plans were done, tasks divided and all were on their toes to make this a successful one.

And then the day arrived!!!  All gals were beautifully dressed in anarkali suits looking like “Begams” and all the handsome hunks looked like “Badshahs”!!It was a visual treat to watch. After all the decorations and last minute”okay fine, we are on!!, the function started at 5 pm.

Among the special invitees were our director Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, HOD   Dr Col Vijay Deshpande and all the faculty members. Ms Nupur Desai and Ms Vaishnavi Patil hosted the programme beautifully. I t began with Ms Deeba Khan giving us a insight to what Islam as a religion meant and the significance of “roza “ meant. Next on the list was a wonderful dance performance by Ms Neethu Ann Sajan and Ms Megha  Kar on “Aaja Nachle” .Followed by it was a mesmerizing song “Maula Maula” by Ms  Laxmi  Anand. The entire hall was filled with a feeling of serenity , peace. And loud applauses followed later. Next we had Ms Zuwaina Khadri who briefly explained us the five main principles in Islam. She concluded with a thought that “SIHS is  a home away from home”
After this our Director, Dr Rajiv yeravdekar addressed the gathering. He stressed on a very true fact that it is not religion which creates divisons but the people themselves. It was therefore necessary to promote a feeling of harmony and brotherhood amongst ourselves. Finally class representative Mr Shahin  Basheer proposed the vote of thanks. Sweets were distributed to all of them and the programme ended.

All that was planned was beautifully executed. At the end of the day it was a festive feeling all around. A very special thanks to the cultural committee head Ms Meenal kulkarni for her constant support and cooperation. And Kudos!! To the entire cultural committee for their hardwork, dedications and( yes ofcourse, the  endless whatsapp discussions!!)

On the whole, It was a wonderful experience. At the end of the day everyone were satisfied with their work. We had managed to bring a sense of celebration for those missing the festival. We made them feel home!!and YES indeed,” SIHS is a home away from home!!!”
Their smiles said it all!!!!
