Blood Donation Campaign Report - Campaigning Team

The aim of blood donation campaign was to generate awareness on Blood Donation and highlight its significance in saving lives during emergencies. Symbiosis center for healthcare organizes a Blood Donation Camp every year in collaboration with many Blood Banks. The campaign organised by Symbiosis center for Healthcare, in co-operation with various Blood Banks gathered a large number of Staff and students who voluntarily donated their blood for the Symbiosis Blood Donation Camp 2015.
Ever since the date for the blood drive was announced, along with SCHC doctors, students worked very hard to promote this blood drive amongst the students  of symbiosis college to participate and donate blood.  We the students of MBA HHM 2015-17 were involved in a campaign committee where we had to perform a skit at different campuses of symbiosis. Some of our batchmates were selected for voice modulation for the skit and had the opportunity to record at symbiosis studios Lavale. The campaigning team Group 2 were assigned Lavale, Vimannagar and Hinjewadi Campus for performing the skit.

It was a wonderful experience spreading awareness and motivating the students.  Besides performing skit, we also promoted the drive by holding the posters with different slogans like DONATE BLOOD SAVE LIFE and encouraged as many students as possible in campus, canteen and mess.  As a result, there was an overwhelming response from the donors with their participation in this noble cause. The teaching and non teaching staff donated their blood along with the students after undergoing pre-screening medical tests that cleared them for donation.
In order to acknowledge each donor for their contribution, donors were distributed certificates provided by the respective blood banks.  They were also provided with complimentary gifts. A total of 1898 Blood Bags were collected from all the campuses of Symbiosis University. Many of our members also donated blood, and became part of the Elite Donor Club.

PANDHARPUR WARI 2015

 - Padyatra of the Warkaris

“I do not need to visit other sites of pilgrimage when my whole family has the tradition of going to Pandharpur”. This translated dictum of Sant Tukaram, affirms the divine bliss of the age old tradition of Maharashtra which is famously known as the ‘WARI’.

Every on the year eleventh day of the bright moon in the month of Aashaadh, an ocean of devotees leave behind their luxuries, walk through highs and lows only to catch a glimpse of their Lord Vitthal. The palakhi of Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj & Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj starts from Alandi & Dehu respectively with much zeal and gusto. The Palakhis then proceed to Pandharpur, the home of Vithoba – Rakhumai. The Wari tradition has been unbroken and followed with utmost faith for the past 800 years. This year too, the Palakhis started their 23 day journey to mauli’s abode via Pune which had the warkaris walking , dancing and singing abhangs  in the holy name of Lord Vitthal. This long journey that the warkar is travel barefoot is called “wari”. This grand procession was welcomed by Punekars’ on 10th July 2015.
Keeping up with its tradition since the last few years, this year too, from 10th July to 12th July 2015, Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) and Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) in association with Mrs. Sheela Salve Memorial Trust, arranged four mobile medical units to offer free medical services by emergency medical practitioners for warkaris. Whilst the MBA students of Hospital & Health care Management, SIHS looked after the overall logistics & management of the event.

The Inaugural ceremony was organized at Vishwabhavan, Symbiosis. Mr. Sharad Ranpise, MLA, inaugurated the medical services by Symbiosis for the warkaris and delivered an inaugural speech. This was followed by an address by Mr. Sumeet Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Pune. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, President  & Founder, Symbiosis elaborated on the Symbiosis initiative in the Community Outreach Program. Mrs. S. S. Mujumdar Hon. Director, AMM Symbiosis; Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director, Symbiosis; Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean, Faculty of Health & Biomedical Sciences, Symbiosis and Mr. Avinash Salve, Ex- Corporator PMC and many dignitaries attended & expressed their opinion on this noble initiative spearheaded by Symbiosis & Sheela Salve Memorial Trust.
This was followed by the departure of the mobile medical units for the wari from Symbiosis campus to specified locations.
Our Ambulance No.1, with all necessary medical aid kits and drug supply which included analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-diarrheal, supply of ORS, Sprain relief sprays, balms, anti histamines and antibiotics, was stationed at Vishrant Wadi on the 1st day of this medical services inititative.  The moment we reached our destination, we were awestruck at the sea of warkaris, embarking on their three-week long pilgrimage to Pandharpur that would continue till Ashadhie
kadashi

The sight was just overwhelming. Divided into several “dindis” (groups), some carried idols of Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram on their heads, while a few others carried “tulsi” pots. Several warkaris swayed holding saffron flags. The old, the infirm, men and women walked hand in hand to honour their commitment to the tradition of “wari.” Seeing the sea of people before us, our minds were filled of anxiety, excitement, certain apprehensions since we all had never worked in such a big event before.
·         The first group brought the ever increasing crowd under control.
·        The second group created the log of all the patients getting treated
·         The third group helped the EMS students by giving them medicines from the ambulance
·        The fourth group organised medicines and looked after the food and water requirements of Symbiosis students.
There were three rows of the pilgrims so as to ensure fast treatment. Most of the pilgrims complained about Joint pains, eye, nausea and vomiting, small wounds, general weakness. They were provided with analgesics, anti inflammatory agents, antiemetic, and oral rehydration therapy. Patients who had wounds inflicted due to walking continuously were provided with dressing facility. Complaints for loose motion and cold and fever were also treated. . The medical staff left no stone unturned in providing the best possible care.  From this year, Symbians also began maintaining e-records of the warkaris who were served. This novel technique of accurate and organized data management was looked after by the MBA students.

Also, we encountered an emergency case when a warkari collapsed to the ground owing to an epileptic attack. Thanks to the prompt medical attention extended by the symbians, a fatality was averted.
In between our work we also found got time to interact with the warkaris, they shared their experience till now and we took photographs with them too.
Language barrier was overcome by crude but highly effective sign language with the incorporation of a few marathi words. Many non Marathi students found a unique opportunity to learn a few Marathi words. After the initial chaos things eventually settled and progressed smoothly. Everybody got acquainted and comfortable with their roles. The day ended at 5pm and we had successfully provided medical aid to 2240 patients on day one.

After packing up some MBA students  walked along with the warkaris all the way back to SIHS. They walked the 9-10 kilometres dancing, enjoying and being part of this devotional journey.

We were touched by the devotion of the warkaris, who paying no heed to the scorching heat and heavy rains, continued walking, dancing and chanting abhangs during  their sojourn in Pune. Taking pains in a stride, submitting themselves to vitthal bhakti, the determination and dedication of the warkaris was indeed a learning experience.

AIDS Awareness Campaign

“A tremendous social responsibility comes only when you are a successful public performer.”

The above quote perfectly applies to the perfect collaboration between Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) and Mahindra & Mahindra to fight against HIV-AIDS.

We were given the responsibility of conducting the “Spreading awareness” programme at two major supplier units of Mahindra & Mahindra at Chakan near Pune.

Aim:
1.      To spread awareness against HIV-AIDS by connecting to the audience (working class of Mahindra & Mahindra) in the most simple and convenient language.
2.      To contribute in carrying forward the success in achieving the noble cause for the betterment of public life.
3.      To boost our confidence in terms of exposure to the other side of corporate world, public speaking skills and connection to large number of people.

Task:
Two days.
Following are the names of Supplier Units visited with date:
1.      Venue: Mungi Engineering Services
Date of the event: 24th December, 2014.
2.      Venue: Lumax
Date of the event: 26th December, 2014

Agenda:
The modes were effectively used in the following sequences:
1.      Power Point Presentation(By SIHS)
2.      A 30 minute animated film(By Mahindra & Mahindra)
3.      Street play (nukkad natak).

Experience:
Every member in the group had a unique experience as we realized the importance of Team Building, Team Work with hard work and dedication, Coordination, Communication (verbal as well as non-verbal), Professional etiquette, Appreciation, Interaction skills and public connect with conviction.
Our experience and presentation skills (in anchoring, skit performance and logistics) were more polished than ever.
The selling point of ‘this’ two days event were Punctuality, Manufacturing Visit, Guest Treatment, humbleness of the staff-in-charge and the organizers and the audience.
The audiences were actively involved in every part of the programme with utmost zeal and enthusiasm. Their curiosity regarding HIV-AIDS was evident during the Question & Answer session when many sensible and intelligent questions came up with some logical & relevant suggestions.
The only minor flaw was the logistics part (A-V) and a bit bridging gap between the workers and the organizers on the first day which was later rectified till the end of the event.
Result:
The event was a success at the both the supplier units from the audience as well as the organization point of view. By the end, we all received a gift as a token of appreciation.

Conclusion:
Every complex thing can be made simpler with mankind by:
EARNING PROFIT AND RESPECT WITH SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN RETURN BY CONVICTION, CONNECTION AND DEDICATION.

Mahindra & Mahindra Chakan Joins hand with SIHS for AIDS Awareness & prevention campaign

As we stand poised at the start of the second decade of the new millennia, it is time to take stock of the victories won and losses faced in the on going fight against AIDS, deadliest disease known to man till date. No other words conjure up so much revulsion, fear and despair in the human psyche than AIDS or HIV.

Approximately 2.5 million of these cases are in India, where however the prevalence is only about 0.3%

Estimated adult and child deaths during 2010 is 250,000.
By starting an awareness program one can hope to bring together masses of people and enlighten them on the ill effects of this disease.
By bringing together individuals from all walks of life one can give them information on how the disease is contracted by individuals and the ways one can enlist to save themselves from contracting the disease.
This knowledge given to the masses will prevent social stigma from becoming rampant and will allow those affected with the disease to live a normal life.

AIDS is a disease that doesn't choose its victims. It affects each and every individual that comes its way.Victims include babies, teen and old people. Their race, sex and age doesn't count when they are affected with the disease.
Sometime people are infected even if it was no fault of theirs; this is in cases of newborn babies.

A constructive, coordinated and consistent program will help orient the community to a higher success rate and in turn will help to combat HIV/AIDS in a better way.

It is essential to get more and more people involved in an AIDS awareness program as this goes a long way in reducing incident as people are well informed regarding what to do and what not to do.
Student participation in the program will enable them to contribute to nation building.
The AIDS Awareness program to be carried out by Mahindra Chakan is a very welcome step in this direction
