Workshop on Internet of things (IoT) held on 25th January 2018

A workshop on Internet of things was conducted on 25 th January 2018, Thursday .Internet of Things is becoming the necessity of time and a basic requirement for any organization and thus it is essential for students and budding Managers to learn the basic fundamentals of IOT and apply the same in their organizations while dealing with practical problem.
Session 1 - The session started at 9:30 am with an inspiring quote on internet by Miss Vanshika Sengar and introduction of first speaker Mr Rajesh Vartak. The topic of the session was cracking the code of generation next information. As we were all new to the topic he started with the basics of internet, how automation/programming has become a fourth language, Gartner technologies 2016, Technology growth, invention of JAVA and future technologies like SMAC .He explained how merger of the two that is physical world (sensor) and digital world (SMAC) lead to Internet of Things. We were also taught about the stories of analytics, Machine learning andDeep learning.After the basic introduction we were then explained about what is IOT, future of IOT i.e. IOT preparations in 2020, layers of IOT, what is an IOT device, emotional internet of things and components of IOT. The session ended with a video on how oracle IOT upgraded a car racing game to a real life experience.

Session 2- The second session started at 1135 hrs and was conducted by Mr Harish Rijhwani. The topic of the session was Impact of IOT on Healthcare vertical. He taught us about the three square market, what can IOT connect to, he showed us a video on social web of things, how IOT can help from appointment in a healthcare centre, bed management,Medication control,Management of room temperature and tracking of hand hygiene compliance and patients with the help of RFID. He emphasized on the use of IOT for sensors for points of care and ICD which helps in medical transcription, coding and billing. He cited the example of organization like Ohio Health, Apollo Hospital,Chennai and Manipal Bengaluru which are using IOT for efficient running. He ended the session with challenges in implementing IOT in healthcare and how do IT companies play a role in its development, integration and R&D which was followed by a lunch break.

Session 3- The final session for the day started post lunch at 1400 hrs. The session was conducted by Dr.Neelesh Kumbhojkar. It was an interactive session with Dr. Kumbhojkar asking the students multiple questions .The main focus of the talk was 'demystifying the technology trends in healthcare'. Dr Kumbhojkar started by talking about the current scenario, technology, market segmentation and latest happenings in the industry. He then went on to talk about the range of devices and growth talking place in the industry with  respect to internet of things. Later on he talked about the reasons for growth, expectations in the future and importance of developing skills in big data. The session was concluded after a discussion on various career opportunities in the sector for the MBA-HHM students.
