Symbiosis Centre for Health Skills (SCHS), Department of Symbiosis International (Deemed) University (SIU) in collaboration with Royal College of Surgeons (RCS), England launched the first ever Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) course in Pune on 18th and 19th January 2019 at Symbiosis International (Deemed University)

Symbiosis Centre for Health Skills (SCHS), Department of Symbiosis International (Deemed) University (SIU) in collaboration with Royal College of Surgeons (RCS), England launched the first ever Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) course in Pune on 18th and 19th January 2019 at Symbiosis International (Deemed University).


The BSS is internationally accepted as the Gold standard in the training of surgeons. The World over there is an increasing demand for this course and every surgical professional in the West is required to undergo this Course as a mandatory pre-requisite.
The two-days intensive hands on training course is designed to introduce Surgeons to safe surgical practice and aims to teach the correct basic surgical techniques by means of a structured curriculum common to all forms of surgery. The course thus provides an opportunity to surgeons (in training as well as established) to upgrade their clinical skills on par with international norms and standards and remain updated with the latest developments. The Course covers the following three main areas viz. Open surgery, Electro surgery, Endoscopic surgery.         
Dr. Drabble Eric Harold & Ms. Gill Vessey from RCS England were the faculty from UK. Delegates comprised of general and orthopedic surgeons across India.

Healthcare IT- New Frontier


The guest lecture was conducted by Symbiosis Institute of Health Science, Pune on 13th of December, 2018.
The lecture  began with introduction of Dr. Neeta Bhatia. Ma’am is a senior healthcare consultant with a wide experience of over 16 years with extensive knowledge of US and Indian healthcare




Ma’am started the session by discussing about the big four firms- Amazon, Google, Apple and Uber. Then she moved by introducing about the transformation timeline in healthcare and its importance. Sir also mentioned that human body is also a source for big data. Ma’am also highlighted about the digitalization in healthcare, IOT, Big Data, Cognitive ability, real-time processing, hybrid cloud computing and block chain. Overall the session was interesting.
In the end, the felicitation was done by Dr. Meenal Kulkarni.

It was truly an enlightening session which taught the students, the importance of IT in healthcare and various trends emerging in the industry.

Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean FOHBS was invited as Chairperson for the Inaugural Ceremony of the “National Symposium on Universal Health Coverage Day Advocacy on 12th December 2018” by Indian Institute of Education, Pune and UHC Day Advocacy by Global Health Strategies, (UHC 2030), USA at J. P Naik Centre for Education & Development, Kothrud, Pune.
Dr. Rajiv delivered the Presidential Address on India’s National Health Strategies for Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
