Session 7 of Leadership Development Series

The seventh session of the ‘Leadership development series’ was presided over by Mr. Ajay Pitre from Pitre Ventures, who enlightened the students on ‘Health care challenges in India and abroad and our way forward to conquer those.
The guest speaker appreciated the efforts put in by the students to make posters on different healthcare verticals, exhibiting their creativity and enthusiasm. He was then felicitated by Brig. Dr. Anil Pandit, Professor, SIHS.
Mr. Ajay Pitre explained about the practical issues that the Indian Healthcare industry is facing and what are the different ways to counter those challenges. He explained why it is not fair for India to be compared with countries like the United States considering the fact that the US spends at least 30 to 40 times more money on their healthcare system. He widened the views of the students on how our country has achieved so much more with so little resources.

The political factors which play a major role in the execution of the plans have not been very favorable in India. But the situation is changing and the forces are much more favorable today. Further sir added that we are in the best of positions as a country specially if we talk about change of mindset. Today the Indians are more aware and open minded.
Talking about politics and healthcare he also added that time is not far when Health will be an agenda for elections and that will help in penetration and funding of healthcare. The most important point highlighted by him was the population which cannot afford expensive healthcare and they end up visiting the small nursing homes where there is no sign of quality or hygiene. And that should be the area of target for change because most of the country’s population ends up receiving healthcare services from these nursing homes.

After listening to his talk students were very clear about what needs to be done in terms of making healthcare better and affordable to all. And like he said “Change will come very soon” we should not expect change unless we become a part of it.
